Fiverr.com is a website you can use which is a source of quality and affordable online products and services which start at $5.

How can I make money on Fiverr?  What can I offer?

What is Fiverr?

Fiverr (www.fiverr.com) is an online global marketplace where sellers offer services, called “Gigs” starting at $5 per order.

Fiverr has now been around a few years and you don’t get much for $5-that’s the “entry level” price but it’s still possible.  However, most sellers provide “upsells” that can easily reach $100 on an order, depending on what the buyer needs to have done.

For example, Anthony used Fiverr to get his Podcast Intro.  He tried out several freelancers at around $25 each before he found a good fit.  All in all, he spent approximately $250 but this is still markedly better than having found a local voice-over artist in Atlanta, which would have cost around $1000-$1500.

How do I make money on it?

Many people “get online” to start making money.  They think they need to start a website, SEO, blog and podcast right away.   Yes, eventually you may need those, but Fiverr is a great way to get online and start making money quickly without any upfront investment.

Freelancing on Fiverr is also a great way to learn what you actually enjoy doing.

And, it’s also a great way to see what people want and what they are willing to pay for –your market basis.

There are many sites and YouTube videos that show you how to utilize Fiverr, but the basics of getting online are that you:

  1. Create your account
  2. Create Your Gig using a title up to 80 characters long and choose a category
  3. Add an image for your gig.
  4. Add a 1200 word description
  5. Add your metadata-these are search key words or “tags”
  6. Add your delivery terms (i.e. timeframe)
  7. Add your instructions to the buyer (i.e. please provide an audio file)

Anthony’s Tips on Creating Gigs

Don’t just start typing away and offering services in case there’s not a market for them.

Do some investigation.

Search for the terms that are close to what you want to offer.  Look at the other sellers’ gig descriptions and profiles.  Pick out commonalities between them.  Your goal is to combine the best features of what’s already out there so that you stand out.

You can search online too through Google and Yahoo for the same search terms.  See what kind of market is out there for your service and approximately what people are charging and how they are describing their services.

Don’t be concerned if 40 other people out there are offering the same service.

People get scared and run from competition.  If you see others offering the service, especially a large number of people or a small number of people with many orders that means the service is in demand.  Your goal is to offer that service in a more attractive way.

If you can, have some friends “hire” you for the service and write a good review for you on your profile.  Good reviews give customer confidence.

There is evidence that US-based sellers are a lot more successful on Fiverr.  If you are outside of the US, look into getting a US-based account.

Create a video 10 to 30 seconds.  The gigs with videos are purchased more often.

Fiverr gives you badges and buttons to market on social media-take advantage of this and market on all of your platforms.
